Do you wonder if your home is dated? Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the following professionals have their opinions on specific things that make a home look out-of-date. These are their opinions and are not meant to offend anyone who really likes the decor in the following photos.                 

LaMar Lisman, Lisman Studio, SLC

• Anything "shiny brass" - hardware, lighting, etc.
• Anything "beige" - contrary to popular belief, it is not neutral - it's just boring.
• "Display" towers to showcase CD's, DVD's and video collections
• Curio cabinets with enormous collections of Liadro or Precious Moments figurines. One or two can be charming...five or 6 annoying
• Formica countertops - Laminates have come a long way,but tired looking laminate can make even handsome cabinets look awful.
• Anything "Faux" (except fur and animal skin). Faux paint, faux columns, faux tile.

• Different color carpets in each room
• Old World decorating in general
• Faux painted walls especially rag-rolled finishes
• 30" high vanities
• Busy Travertine tiles
• Showers with decorative borders
• Stained knotty alder cabinetry
• 2 1/4" red oak flooring
• Accessories that do not serve a purpose
• Chair and halves
• Metal cased shower doors
• Fake leaded glass aluminum clad front doors
• Decorative tile backsplashes - keep it simple
• Armoires

• Display jars of pastas, oil drowned peppers and dark vinegars
• Interior water features -they may sound nice, but most splash.
• Heavy, large valances
• Themed decors, from "Gone Fishing" to "Cowboys and Indians"
• Showplace rooms - You know the kind - living rooms with the invisible velvet ropes and don't touch attitude
• Art niches at every turn
• Bowls of dust-collecting potpourri. Keep the wood chips in the yard, not on the back of the toilet.

The first quarter sales statistics appear to show some promise in the Lake of the Ozarks real estate market.

Home sales in January numbered 46. Home sales in February numbered 59. Home sales in March numbered 97.

Condo sales in January numbered 14. Condo sales in February numbered 22. Condo sales in March numbered 28.

Although sales do traditionally increase month by month in the first quarter, it is nice to see we are staying with tradition and experiencing an upward trend in the number of sales for homes and condos lakewide. Yes, these numbers are below last years stats, but there appears to be a bit of optimism as of late. Let's hope this trend continues here at the Lake and in your home market.
