Do you know who is the largest private landowner in the United States? According to several sources, Ted Turner owns approximately 2,000,000 acres of land. The majority of this land is in the western part of the country in Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Much of this land is used for Bison ranching. Turner has approximately 50,000 head of bison, making him the largest bison rancher in the world.
The 2,000,000 acres pales in comparison to the 760,000,000 acres of land owned by the federal government. The entire country consists of approximately 2.3 billion acres.
